MetaMask is a browser extension that functions as a cryptocurrency wallet, primarily designed for interacting with decentralized applications (dApps) on the Ethereum blockchain. It allows users to securely store and manage their Ethereum-based assets, including Ether (ETH) and various tokens, as well as interact with decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), and other Web3 applications.

One of the key features of MetaMask is its ease of use. It integrates directly into web browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Brave, enabling seamless interaction with Ethereum-based dApps directly from the browser interface. Users can access their wallets, send and receive transactions, and interact with smart contracts without leaving their browser window.

MetaMask also provides users with control over their private keys, offering a secure way to manage and access their funds. It uses a hierarchical deterministic (HD) wallet, which means a single seed phrase can generate multiple accounts, each with its own set of public and private keys. This seed phrase is crucial for recovering the wallet in case of loss or theft.

Furthermore, MetaMask supports various Ethereum networks, including the Ethereum mainnet, testnets (such as Ropsten, Rinkeby, and Kovan), and custom networks.
